Prince Kaybee has taken to social media to tell Mzansi musicians' managers to back off a bit. The award-winning DJ shared that he was trying to get the contact details of a singer he saw singing on Twitter but the manager refused to give him the number.
Kaybee advised managers to give artists the "freedom" to engage with other artists. He urged them to stop saying things must go through them even when the singer is willing to do a collab.
"When you manage an artist please give them the freedom to engage with other artists, STOP saying things must go through you even when artists want to engage and get to learn from each other as creatives. You are not a musician, go manage deals and bookings."
Kaybee slammed managers for being to forward. The Hosh hitmaker further said:
"There’s an artist I saw sing here on Twitter, I asked for her number to try get in touch, the manager said “Unfortunately” everything goes through him then he will engage her. So lets say we do things his way, the time we get to studio we’ll be complete strangers.
"That time I don’t know what kind of person she is, what language she speaks, what kind of vibe she’s comfortable with also on a personal level what inspires her to deliver the best so that we can make fire music. MANAGERS NEED TO STEP BACK A BIT."
Singer Donald reacted to Prince Kaybee's thread:
"Eish this breaks my heart bro because it always happens and it kills a lot of artists careers, I wish artists can learn something here."
Musician Lil Zara commented:
"Maybe it might be the same girl I wanted to put on a big mainstream project and this manager just killed my vibe and I got someone instead to replace her."
Radio presenter Lady Kuda wrote:
"See what I keep saying about your so called managers."
Artists manager @RobynZK_ added:
"Managers are supposed to be facilitators, not gatekeepers."
