Dr John Kani has been honoured with a Golden Elephant Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the performing arts scene in Mzansi. Kani was recognised by Word of Mouth Pictures for his contribution in the arts industry. Word of Mouth is the production company behind one of Mzansi's popular telenovelas titled Muvhango.
Muvhango executive producer Duma ka Ndlovu presented the award to the veteran actor during a recent ceremony hosted in his honour. Ka Ndlovu took to Instagram and shared a snap of the Black Panther actor receiving the award from himself and Muvhango producer Herbert Hadebe. Ka Ndlovu captioned his post:
"Dr John Kani was honoured with the inaugural Golden Elephant Lifetime Achievement Award during a glittering ceremony at the Joburg Theatre by Word Of Mouth Pictures' executive producer, Duma Ndlovu."
Actress Phindile Gwala took to ka Ndlovu's comment section to share her opinion on Word of Mouth Pictures recognising Dr Kani with the award. She wrote: "Well-deserved." Ka Ndlovu's follower on the photo-sharing app sibongilendawoengel said: "Congratulations."
In related news, Briefly.co.za previously reported that Kani had been awarded an honorary doctorate by the prestigious Wits University. Kani was honoured with an honorary Doctorate of Literature degree at a closed ceremony earlier this year.
As an artist and social activist, Kani has used his work to interrogate complex sociopolitical matters and contributed, through his art, to the liberation of Mzansi.
In other entertainment news, Briefly.co.za reported that Menzi Ngubane shared a hilarious throwback snap of himself when he disguised himself as 'mfundisi' (pastor) on Isibaya. The veteran actor played the role of Judas Ngwenya in the telenovela.
Judas used to confuse his enemies with his many faces. The star took to Instagram on Monday, 23 November and shared a snap of himself dressed as a pastor. He was with another lady in the pic.
Menzi shared that he was honouring the young woman for "doing an outstanding job with wardrobe" when he was still part of the Isibaya cast. Menzi wrote:
"Did you pray yesterday?! I’m honouring the lady next to me for doing an outstanding job with wardrobe when I was at #Isibaya, home gal from KZN."
