- ASAP ordered 120 hot meals from his favourite restaurant in Harlem, New York and then delivered them himself
ASAP Rocky spent the American holiday of Thanksgiving delivering meals to people staying at a homeless shelter that he and his mom used to stay at.
The rapper and his mother had been occupants of the shelter when they were struggling with homelessness and decided to spend their holiday by giving back.
ASAP Rocky ordered 120 meals from Amy Ruth's Restaurant, his favourite restaurant in Harlem, New York. The artist then delivered the meals to the homeless shelter and handed them out himself.
One tweep commented on the story:
@DarrianCrane: "ASAP Rocky delivered 120 meals to a NY shelter but it’s not making any noise? Shoutout to Rocky, all love."
ASAP Rocky did not announce the deed nor did he post it to any social media. The rapper was clearly using the holiday of gratitude to be grateful for what he has now and the journey that led him here.
In other celebrity Thanksgiving news, Briefly.co.za reported on Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez receiving backlash over an Instagram post that others found to be insensitive.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have come under fire recently for an Instagram post that was shared in honour of Thanksgiving. The celeb couple was accused of being insensitive after sharing a picture taken in a private jet.
Alex Rodriguez, J.Lo's fiancé and ex-baseball player, posted a picture to Instagram of J.Lo chilling in a private jet. The pic was captioned with a message about gratitude and a question about his followers' plans for Thanksgiving.
The comments section exploded with users saying that the couple were being insensitive to other people attempting to celebrate Thanksgiving in a year that has cost many people their livelihoods.
Commenters also pointed out that due to the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions, many people will not be travelling to spend the American holiday with their extended families.
Rodriguez captioned the post:
"Lady is definitely ready for #Thanksgiving! We have so much to be grateful for and are excited to be heading home to spend time with family. What are your holiday plans?"
Comments on the post were in the vein of:
ceeezzz: "Hmm let see... stay home lol can’t visit family due to the pandemic."
kimperry1822: "Of course it’s okay for celebs to fly since it’s private? The hypocrisy never ends."
stinaturvery: "Really? The CDC has recommended that no one travel for Thanksgiving. And doctors are pleading with us to keep Thanksgiving with just our immediate household for one year. I am surprised to see someone with a platform like yours posting this. It is hard for those of us who are sacrificing this year to see this. Sending all love and good health.
sophiesmom0123: "None. We cancelled all of them. We’re in the middle of a pandemic."
theresaamadden: "Must be nice to travel. Most of us don’t have that luxury."
