Gugu Gumede has become one of the most popular South African actresses thanks to her amazing performance of MaMlambo's character on SABC's telenovela Uzalo.

Despite her popularity, there are surprising facts about her that most people are not aware of. Briefly.co.za bring you some of these facts.

1. Gugu is just 26 years old

Gugu's character, MaMlambo, is an older woman. This has led many people to believe that Gugu is also older. However, she only turned 26 in November.

2. She is a born-again Christian

The actress revealed this in a video she shared on her YouTube page last year. She said she spends a lot of time at church activities when she's not acting or pursuing business opportunities.

Gugu is a member of Pastor Alph Lukau's Alleluia Ministries International.

3. She has a slight American accent

Gugu plays her character so convincingly that it's surprising to hear her speak with a slight American accent.

When she was studying Drama in a US college, she was advised to pick up the accent in order to blend in better and increase her chances of landing acting jobs there.

4. She does not have a personal makeup artist

Gugu has over 161,000 followers on Instagram. Many of them praise her for her stunning makeup and ask whether she has a personal makeup artist or not.

The actress revealed that she does her own makeup. In fact, she is considering doing a makeup tutorial video soon.

5. She is Zanele Magwaza-Msibi's daughter

Gugu is daughter to Anele Magwaza-Msibi, who is a member of parliament, deputy minister and leader of the National Freedom Party.

In a recent interview, she urged fans to see her as someone more than just Magwaza-Msibi's daughter:

People will always recognise me as Zanele Magwaza-Msibi's daughter before the actress. I wish it was different, but that's just something I have to face.
