Zim billionaire Frank Buyanga Sadiqi claims SARS stole R600m coins

Frank Buyanga Sadiqi, a Zimbabwean businessman and billionaire, filed court papers claiming that the South African Revenue Service confiscated Kruger coins from him worth about R600 million.

During a raid in October, the goods, which included cellphones, watches and jewellery were attached.

This was revealed in papers filed at the Pretoria High Court by Sadiqi, whose goods were seized during a raid on his girlfriend Melinda Dube's home.

TimesLIVE reports that the Sadiqi alleges SARS had illegally, without justification and without his permission taken the coins.

According to Sadiqi, Sars stole the items. He then approached the High Court to have the forfeited gold returned to him:

“My involvement in the events of the day on which the illegal Sars raid took place, and the fact that the raid was illegally perpetrated on me and the companies with which I am associated with, render it essential that I be allowed to make common cause with her application."

Sadiqi explained the coins are trading stock of his African Medallion Group. The billionaire alleges this company to be one of the 'most trusted gold companies in the world'.

In addition to this drama, Sadiqi claims that the agency had failed to act in a professional manner during the raid, reports News24.

The businessman claims they questioned his choice of cars, Sadiqi owns a fleet of luxury vehicles. The billionaire explained that during the raid, Sars repeatedly questioned his decision to drive his BMW motor vehicle, which he apparently drives every day.

Sadiqi claims the agency 'expressed severe disappointment to the fact that I was not using one of my luxury motor vehicles.'
