Halala Muvhango actress 'Vho-Masindi' graduates with doctorate degree

Regina Nesengani, who plays the part of vho-Masindi, Chief Azwindini’s mother, in the popular SABC 2 drama Muvhango, was conferred with a PhD degree recently. The actress was awarded the accomplishment by the University of South Africa, (UNISA).

The 65-year-old actress is living proof that one is never too old to pursue their dreams. The doctorate degree is in languages, linguistics and literature.

Muvhango took to social media to make the announcement on their official account, adding:

"Her doctoral dissertation was on gender-based violence and it was written in her native TshiVenda language. SABC and Word of Mouth Pictures are planning a massive celebration on Wednesday, December 9 to pay homage to vho-Masindi for her momentous and historic achievement."

The Daily Sun reports that the actress' 235-word thesis was written in Venda and deals with the portrayal of woman abuse. The newly-graduated doctor wrote the thesis by hand and had asked someone to type it up for her.

The reason behind her chosen topic was to amplify the words about the suffering of women.

Social media users were thrilled with Regina's achievement and congratulated her. Twitter user Undlunkulu_Xoli said:

Briefly.co.za previously reported that a young man revelled in praise after graduation but used the opportunity to recognise his grandmother's selflessness. Sipheleke Zond'amaxoki Nongqotho shared a touching Facebook post to honour the most important woman in his life.

The young man graduated recently and revealed the key role his gogo played in his success. His inspirational post explained:

"When am looking at this woman I don't just see an ordinary person, I see a hero. She worked very hard for me to be where I am. She saw lights that were so bright for me to see, she prayed for me.
"My mom stood up for me when I couldn't stand. Mama enkosi mathaba, mxasana. Lockdown couldn't stop us from celebrating our celebration."
