- On Tuesday, December 1, the thespian announced she no longer regards herself as a woman
- Ellen informed her fans that she is now a man who goes by the name Elliot and even changed her social media handles after the announcement
"I will now be referred to as he/they," read part of Hollywood giant Ellen Page's statement on social media.
The silent, broody actress who had been known for long as a tomboyish woman, disclosed she no longer identifies as female.
The star, in a lengthy statement, revealed she had transitioned into a man and now prefers being referred to as a male.
The thespian also changed her name from Ellen to Elliot.
According to her, she has had an incredible support system that has stood by her throughout her eye-opening transition from female to male.
The 33-year-old referred to her new identity as her authentic self and promised to help pursue a more generous and loving society.
“I also ask for patience. My joy is real but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared,” Ellen said.
She acknowledged that though she was among the lucky who get to be themselves, a lot of transgender people face discrimination.
“I love that I am trans and I love that I am queer. And the more that I fully embrace who I am, the more my heart grows,” Ellen added.
Her fans supported her growth and promised to stand by her as she embraced her new identity.
Note that fellow celebrity Sam Smith also came out as non-binary earlier in the year. He said he is neither male nor female and now prefers being referred to as they or them.
Days after, the Too Good at Goodbyes singer was spotted walking in a lacy women's outfit. He even had a touch of make-up on and wore a more feminine look.
"I went to an award show in my underwear last night," wrote Smith on Instagram.
