Zulu Prince murder: Court hears claims of drug abuse, sex workers

One of the five suspects taken into custody in connection with the murder of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu has revealed some sensational details.

The trial played out in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday, exploring the circumstances leading up to the body being discovered.

Tshefogatso Moremane, Margaret Koaile, Portia Mmola, Gontse Tlhoele and Dakalo Mbedzi all stand accused of involvement in the murder.

Bail applications were heard on Thursday with Moremane explaining in an affidavit that she and friends had met the Prince at a News Cafè in Randburg.

Birthday celebrations were underway and Zulu had sent beers to their table, in the company of another man.

Moremane explained that her party, including three accused who also admitted to being sex workers, had joined the two men at the bar, explaining that she had told Zulu it was her birthday.

When the party drew to a close, Zulu had allegedly suggested that they 'finish off' the celebrations at his home.

At Zulu's home, Moremane claimed that she had 'entertained the deceased sexually', also alleging that she suspected drug use but had not witnessed the Prince taking illicit substances.

The mother of two minor children intends to plead not guilty, strongly believing that the court would agree with her claim of innocence, reports eNCA.

TimesLIVE reports that the court had earlier heard that the accused formed part of a syndicate that allegedly drugged and then robbed victims.

Zulu's apartment had allegedly been raided on the night of his murder, with a microwave, TVs and cash with a total value of R30 000 stolen.

During bail applications, the suspects called for their release, adamant that they pose no flight risk with the matter since being postponed to next week.

The suspects have asked to be released, as they say, they don't pose a flight risk.

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that King Goodwill Zwelithini's son's death last month has been dubbed a murder by Gauteng police officials.

Prince Lethukuthula Zulu was found by security staff at his Graceland One residential complex in Northworld.

In a statement issued on the high-profile investigation, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters commented:

“The inquest docket opened at Honeydew police station on November 6 to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu at the Graceland One residential complex in Northworld has been converted to a murder case, based on preliminary evidence emerging from the initial investigation."
