On Wednesday morning, a man wanted to propose to his girlfriend of six months on her favourite local radio channel, East Coast Radio.

But, what was supposed to be one of Steven’s best days of his life, turned into a nightmare.

Radio host Damon Beard recalled Steven sending him a voice note, asking for his help to pop the big question to his girlfriend, Sarah, who was at that time still in Dubai.

Beard agreed to help Steven, speaking to him on live radio about his planned proposal.

Steven gave Beard details about his romance with Sarah, saying the couple met in 2011 and there was a special connection, but both were at that point in committed relationships.

However, as fate wanted it to be, the pair ended up together in 2017, after Steven returned home from the UK, where he lived a couple of years.

“We have been dating each other since August and it has just been a magical whirlwind, and I honestly think she is the one”, Steven said.

He said everyday has been special since he and Sarah got together, telling Beard he wanted to grow old with her.

So, they played some music and got Sarah on the line. Beard told her Steven sent him a voice note because he wanted to do something really special for her on valentine’s day.

“Hey sweetheart, we have been together since August, and even though we met in 2011 and things did not quite happen, you have always been on my mind since then and everyday since I have met you have been wonderful”, he started out with his proposal.

Steven continued to tell her he knew how much she loved East Coast Radio, and he wanted to ask her there if she would spend the rest of her life with him by becoming his wife.

But, instead of an excited response, there was complete silence after he asked her to marry him.

“Uhm, did you really have to do this on air?”, Sarah finally responded. She added she did not know what to say, to which Steven said, “Yes would be great”.

After repeating she does not know and why did he have to do this on air, Sarah finally said no before hanging up.

A heartbroken Steven was left alone on air, not knowing what to make of the situation.

What was supposed to be a romantic valentine’s day story turned into a heart-breaking event neither Steven nor Sarah would ever forget.
