Zuma's family has called upon ANC members and supporters to not act out against his departure, but the support the new leadership.
According to Zuma's son, Edward Zuma, the family knew there was loyal supporters planning to boycott next year's elections after the former president was recalled.
In his statement, Edward said the family believed the ANC remained the home for all South Africans. He added the party was created with the aim to unite all people of the country.
He said the ANC mobilised South Africans to struggle for the liberation of all those who were oppressed by apartheid. Edward further said the ruling party worked non stop to ensure a better life for the people of South Africa.
He added the Zuma family backed the new ANC leadership led by the new South African president Cyril Ramaphosa.
Edward continued by calling for all ANC members to support the leadership as they ready themselves for the Sona.
Zuma's son added the former presidential family would be travelling South Africa over the next few months to campaign in the name of the ANC.
“We will mobilise for the support of the ANC in the rural areas and appeal to the people under Amakhosi and Izinduna‚ and all traditional structures.”
He then called on the ruling party to stand by the promises they made about land, free education and economic transformation.
Edward said the ANC should focus on implementing those resolutions instead of debating about leadership preferences.
Zuma's son then praised the ANC for delivering basic services since it became the reigning party in 1994.
“Sound management of the economy‚ good governance coupled with policies that attracted foreign investments and the creation of sustainable growth of the economy‚ resulted in the reversal of spiralling unemployment and the creation of a stable economy that withstood such challenges as those which devastated economies elsewhere in the world in the late 90’s‚” Edward said.
