1. Mogoeng's Covid-19 prayer for SA

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng recently prayed that any vaccine that is 'of the devil' be destroyed during an address at a ceremony at Tembisa Hospital.

"I lock out any vaccine that is not of you. If there be any vaccine that is of the devil, meant to infuse triple-six in the lives of people, meant to corrupt their DNA, any such vaccine, Lord God Almighty, may it be destroyed by fire, in the name of Jesus."

Mogoeng acknowledged that health care workers remain resolute in their work, despite widespread criminal activity at some facilities:

"I just hope it is a lie that some people are such heartless, corruption practitioners that when resources were made available to save lives, the saw it as an opportunity to enrich themselves."

2. Mkhize on latest statistics

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has once again updated South Africans on the latest Covid-19 statistics.

This time, the latest number of cases was revealed alongside a plea for citizens to heed the threat of climbing numbers:

"Today, we wish to reiterate our plea to South Africans to heed the threat of the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases identified. There is clear evidence of an exponential rise in transmission and this is cause for serious concern. As of today, a cumulative total of 836 764 cases have been reported with 8 166 new cases."

In addition to the latest infections, Mkhize also noted the number of fatalities recorded in SA:

"Regrettably, we report 173 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 90, Free State 13, Gauteng 8, Kwa-Zulu Natal 10 and Western Cape 52 which brings the total to 22 747 deaths."

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has officially confirmed that South Africa is experiencing the long forewarned second wave of Covid-19 infections.

Speaking during a special broadcast on Wednesday evening, Mkhize noted that 6 provinces had experienced increases in cases, the majority of which were patients between the ages of 15 and 19.

Mkhize described the issue as new and 'most worrying', commenting that young citizens aren't taking responsible action when out at parties:

"It's believed to be due to a large number of parties involving young people drinking alcohol with no adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions, wearing of no masks and social distancing and hand sanitising also not taking place."
