- The PSL has reportedly denied Sundowns' request for a postponement and now #PostponeSundownsMatch is trending
Mamelodi Sundowns players will be taking on TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld tonight, 15 December. It's been a few days since the club lost 25-year-old Motjeka Madisha in a horrific car accident which occurred over the weekend.
Sundowns tried their best to have the match postponed to honour the late Madisha and for their members to have time to mourn but were reportedly denied by the PSL. Fans have now taken to social media to express their anger and frustration.
#PostponeSundownsMatch has been trending since the early hours of this morning as fans tag the PSL's official Twitter account in an attempt to make a difference and honour the young defender.
According to SoccerLaduma, one of the reasons the PSL rejected Sundowns' postponement request was due to the notice period which is required to be 10 days before the match. While The South African reported that the PSL had previously granted postponements for similar cases.
The #PostponeSundownsMatch tag is filled with frustrated fans. Take a look at some of the tweets below:
"@OfficialPSL it is not too late, #PostponeSundownsMatch. Do the noble thing."
"At least postpone this one game ke if it's difficult to postpone all the other matches, yoh #PostponeSundownsMatch."
"Are you really going to prioritise making a profit over the well being of football players @OfficialPSL, @SuperSportTV, @DStv and @DStvCare? You are heartless and cruel if you expect Sundown' players to be emotionally ready tonight. #PostponeSundownsMatch"
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Motjeka Madisha had passed away. Only hours after the club celebrated its 50th anniversary, the 25-year-old player died in an accident in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
The details of the accident have yet to be confirmed, but it is believed that the soccer icon had another occupant in the vehicle when it burst into flames. It is believed that the driver of the vehicle had lost control before colliding with a metal pole.
One of the occupants perished in the fire inside the vehicle, while a male occupant had been found outside the car, both were declared dead on the scene.
