The board of the Federal Polytechnic Ede in Osun state has reportedly placed its rector, John Adekolawole, on suspension for sleeping at work.

The Cable reports that the decision was made at the emergency congress of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).

Adekunle Masopa, the chairman of ASUP, said that the decision was taken based on what he called “21 grounds”. He said that though the union tried to intervene, the academic board members said their decision is final.

In a formal paper sent to the union, the board noted that one of the things Adekolawole was suspended for was that he left his duty for about a month.

Another was that he ‘disrespected’ his office by building a well-furnished bedroom in it that has a kingsize bed, creating an environment that encouraged him to often sleep at work.

On the case of fraud, the paper said:

“Improper improvisation of dual award programme of National Diploma plus NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) programme in collaboration with a consultant.”
