Internationally the term is called a Sugar Daddy, an older man who provides for a young woman in return for companionship.

In South Africa the term commonly used is Blesser, a man who blesses a younger woman with money or material things.

Briefly.co.za put together this list with the help of viralfeed.co.za of eight women and their experiences dating a Sugar Daddy.

1. Worked out well

A friend of this young lady is a very attractive single mon landed up with a good-looking man in his 50's. He bought her a condominium, a Lexus, a couple of Birkin bags, jewellery and helped support her child. According to her friend it worked out very well.

2. No regrets

At 24, this young lady had a sugar daddy. She was broke and decided to post an ad online for a "daddy" to look after her. A guy in his 40's replied. He was attractive and enjoyed all the things she did music and plays and art.

After each time they met for a date he would pay her afterwards. For her it was the perfect arrangement. Their relationship eventually fizzled out but they still keep in touch.

3. Was worth it while it was fun

This young lady put an ad out looking for someone to buy her nice things, she had no qualms about what she was doing. She chatted with a lot of guys and ended up meeting one of them. They spent nights in nice hotels, had nice dinners and he would buy her presents. She felt that he was a bit too needy. The arrangement lasted for two months. She can't imagine doing it again, she feels that at 23 she is too old those sort of games.

4. Definitely worth it

Her sister has a sugar daddy, a long distance one. The Skype and he transfers money into her account. It helped pay the rent when the lived together. She believes that it was totally worth it.

5. I felt indebted

This girl's former best friend was socially awkward and spent her time online flirting with sugar daddies. She met one guy who ended up becoming her boyfriend. He would buy her purses, clothing and jewelry. She was a top pre-med student but as time wore on her self-esteem dropped and so did her grades. Her friend said that she could never do that and would feel like she owed too much.

6. Paid the bills

A young student managed to get through university thanks to a couple sugar daddies,they paid for bills, groceries and textbooks. None of her relationships were physical and she had met a number of frauds just looking for a good time.

7. Was it worth it? Absolutely

In her early 20's this young lady met a married man who was in an open relationship. She had a lot of fun and adored him. Eventually they broke up and she was devastated. She has never felt so connected to anyone since, not even her husband.

8. Paid for food

A college girl had a platonic relationship with an older man, he paid for her food and let her sleep on his couch. They had a great relationship as friends and said that his girlfriend was insanely jealous of her. She eventually moved on and still keeps in touch. She gets invitations from him to attend event but with her children she does not have a lot of time to meet up with him.
