Connie and Shona Ferguson made headlines for the wrong and right reasons in 2020. The power couple made a couple of money moves in the entertainment industry this year but they were also in the spotlight for allegedly exploiting their employees.
Despite all the backlash that they received from Mzansi social media users throughout the year, the Ferguson Films bosses kept serving Mzansi major couple goals. There's no doubt that the two stars love each other and they just can't stop securing the bag together.
Briefly.co.za takes a look at 5 moments that made the Fergusons trend on social media. There were some special moments in their lives this year but were marred by a few allegations thrown in their direction. Take a look below:
1. 19 years of unconditional love
The loving couple celebrated a whopping 19 years together on Monday, 30 November. Connie's sister Atosie Pilane took to social media to pen a heartfelt message wishing the couple a great anniversary celebration. She said:
"Happy Anniversary to two of the most important people in my life. The people who define what happy in a marriage, friendship, partnership should be like. I’ve seen you from your dating stages, and I must truly say your journey together has been nothing but amazing."
2. Twitter backlash for their new show
The couple took to social media recently to drop the trailer for Ferguson Films' new project, Kings of Joburg. The series premiered on Netflix this December. Their fans jumped into the comments to share their opinions on the trailer. Some commenters were not that keen. Tweeps decided to respond with memes, jokes and criticism that mostly centred around Kings of Joburg starring actors that fans know the Fergusons have collaborated with before.
3. Fun-filled day for cast and crew of The Queen
Connie Ferguson posted a video on Instagram showing the cast and crew of The Queen having a blast at an event. The cast and crew are seen dancing and having a lekker time, with social media users getting jealous they don't work for them. Briefly.co.za learned that social distance regulations were observed as the cast and crew danced on what appears to be a tennis court. The comments section was flooded with reactions to the video and how happy the "family" of The Queen look.
4. Ferguson family dances into Connie's birthday month
The actress and her family served Mzansi family goals when they danced their way into her special month. The businesswoman shared a video of her fam - including her hubby Shona and her daughter Alicia - dancing to Amapiano in their gym. She captioned the vid:
"Entering my birth month like 'siyabangena!' (we're within), Golden Jubilee I see you! Cava (check out) the stank face! @ferguson_films @ali.ferguson_ are a whole mood."
Connie, who portrays the role of Harriet Khoza on The Queen, turned 50 on 10 June.
5. Sexual harassment education support on The Queen set
The Fergusons showed, once again, why they are such a successful couple and so admired in entertainment circles. Connie and Shona were both pictured in a post by Swift South Africa, an organisation committed to fair and equal environments in the entertainment industry, and applauded for being supporters of a workshop they had run. The workshop focused on sexual harassment and discrimination and was held on the set of The Queen to ensure that the set of the show is a place where equality is paramount.
In other entertainment news, Briefly.co.za reported that Connie Ferguson took to social media recently to show off her dance moves. The media mogul posted a video of herself and the crew of The Queen having some fun at the set of telenovela. They were getting down to the sounds of Amapiano.
In the clip the media mogul posted on Instagram, Connie is doing the trending Mzansi dance move involving putting a glass or bottle on top of your head while you bust a move. The star captioned her post:
"It’s been a tough year and we are all exhausted! But somehow the #thequeenmzansi cast and crew manage to maintain high spirits and make the set a fun and happy place for all! And keeping me young and on my toes while at it! Happy Sunday Y’All!"
The Ferguson Film boss' fans took to her comment section to praise her for being a great boss.
