Skeem Saam actor, Charles Maja, recently had to be saved from fans by police after they accosted him in a mall near Polokwane.

The 61-year-old actor said he often has to deal with fans scolding him for the way he treats his on-screen son.

Earlier in February, fans chased him down an aisle, telling him he needed to stop abusing his child.

"I ran into a store and the shop assistants phoned the police to escort me out to my car so I could drive home," he laughed.

He added that he doesn't mind the confusion, because it means he's doing his job as an actor if people actually believe he's Big Boy.

In real life, Maja doesn't drink alcohol and is a devoted father and grandfather.

"I can't stand confrontation and would rather walk away than involve myself in an argument," he added.

As for Leshole, Big Boy's son on Skeem Saam, the actor who plays him gets on very well with Maja off-camera, Briefly.co.za gathered.

Thabo Mkhabela said he's learnt so much from Maja, and considers him to be a veteran of their craft.

Maja said he would like to take on more TV shows so people can see that he's not really like Big Boy, who ill-treats his son.
