Economic Freedom Fighter MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi feels that this is the perfect time to place the country under harsher lockdown restrictions.
Taking to social media to voice his opinion, Ndlozi explained that many weren't at work in any case:
"Now is the best time to put the country under lockdown Level 5, everyone is at home in any case and all tourism feeder countries have banned travels to SA."
Ndlozi warned that SA needed to get the situation under control before the January rush begins:
"Make sure you bring numbers down aggressively before January when everyone is back, schools reopen and the economy is set to restart."
Take a look at a few reactions to Ndlozi's suggestion below:
@WINESSN0B: You don't think, level 5 had other restrictions too. On retail, restaurants, the construction sector, salons and other businesses that will stay open this festive season. It wasn't just about closing borders and having a curfew. Where tf did u get your PhD Mbuyiseni."
@velly_shabangu: "That's the reason EFF will never lead the Country. Leaders with such thinking Face with rolling eyes"
@Ckhola1745: "Today you spoke like a South African Citizen who is worried like any other to protect its borders."
@ANDILE12496277: "Does this guy think before he types in his phone or he just type for fun because he knows their followers agree with everything they say..."
Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed the suspicion of many, saying that 'further lockdown measures' are to be considered soon:
“We must warn South Africans that we will need to review the current restrictions and consider further measures to ensure that we curb this alarming rate of spread. Therefore, it will be important for us to evaluate the situation in these provinces, identify hotspots in these areas (and in other provinces) before making recommendations based on these findings.”
The politician then laid down three golden rules for Mzansi this festive season:
- Avoid large gatherings
- Ensure adequate ventilation when people gather
- Adhere to non-pharmaceutical interventions
