- Nando's SA has helped make South Africa a nicer place to be with everything being disrupted by the horrid coronavirus
- When they weren't making hilariously clever ads, they were making swift clapbacks at the internet trolls
- Briefly.co.za explores some of the funniest Nando's SA moments that had South Africans laughing their butts off
Nando's South Africa has built itself a reputation for having some of the smartest, most hilarious and sometimes downright outrageous ad campaigns. And when they are not cracking us up with their smart-thinking ads, they were sharing clapbacks that left Mzansi reeling.
The closure of fast-food restaurants during the lockdown was getting to South Africans and many were left with cravings. A man, Themba Mbuzi, took to Twitter to share a photo of a guy crawling through a tunnel and he captioned it:
"#Day19ofLockdown If my calculations are correct, Nando's should be right above me."
However, Nando's is known for more than just their fiery chicken as the fast-food outlet is also known for hilarious posts. Responding to Mbuzi's post, Nando's tagged Minister of Police Bheki Cele and said the man was using them as an excuse to break into Tops.
The Twitter user, @GenBheki_Cele, did not disappoint and his reply had South Africans laughing out loud. The parody minister of police said that he would send officers to the scene if Nando's gave him their recipe.
In another hilarious Nando's story, Nando's has become synonymous with delicious flame-grilled chicken but also a hilarious marketing and media team. The fast food franchise regularly produces witty and comical adverts in line with current events taking place in Mzansi.
Earlier this year, they took aim at a woman who was striving to compete with the fast food giant. Twitter user YourFemale_MC (@_vhutshilo) showcased a meal she was selling, which included a whole chicken with a portion of pap. The Nando's team didn't miss and beat and responded by saying:
"Add extra sauces then maybe you'll be playing in the same kitchen but love your work sis."
Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za also reported Tito Mboweni loves to cook and he has proved it over and over again online. The Minister of Finance often takes to his social media account to share photos and recipes of the dishes he prepares for himself.
Most recently, Mboweni treated himself to a garlic-stuffed roast chicken and he shared photos of the process and end product on Twitter. In one of the posts, the minister wrote:
"A very simple meal today. Lots of garlic as usual! Roasting the chicken. Not complicated."
Nando's is known for its witty and savage comments on social media and the admin behind the page decided to take a hilarious swipe at Mboweni. Picking up on some of the comments on the minister's original post, Nando's wrote:
"South Africa presents: The Roast of Tito."
