- Cape Town City FC coach Benni McCarthy has threatened to go for liposuction and come out of retirement to upstage his players
- McCarthy was unimpressed with his player’s after an uninspired 1-0 win on Tuesday
- The 40-year old thought the idea of him running on for the team could just shock some the players into upping their games
Cape Town City Football Club head coach Benni McCarthy has was so frustrated by his side’s uninspired performance on Tuesday that he threatened to come out of retirement.
Cape Town City managed to beat Young Buffaloes from Swaziland 1-0 in an African Confederations Cup match. The team’s performance was far from convincing though.
McCarthy was miffed that his team missed a number of scoring opportunities, he felt his team should have won by four goals.
Briefly.co.za gathered that McCarthy was once again frustrated with players under performing at crucial times during a match.
"I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. If I must go for liposuction maybe and get myself to play. Maybe that will do the trick because the players will be a bit embarrassed by a 40-year-old taking their place and actually doing unbelievably well because I back myself. I could do better than what a few of them are doing. Not that I am putting them down but it is just happening now far too often. I don’t know what to say or what to do anymore. Our training are almost all consisting of attacking and scoring goals,” he said.
McCarthy gambled on unknown players, he made 10 changes to his regular side.
Tuesday’s win gave the Cape Town side an aggregate win over the Swazi side and ensured the team would progress to the second round of the tournament.
