KFM's breakfast show producers got into some trouble after an attempted joke on Basic Education Minister Angie Mtoshekga fell flat.

In her speech in Parliament recently, Motshekga said the three Rs of basic education are reading, writing and arithmetic.

The producers seized on what they thought was a mistake. They made fun of the fact that not all of the three words start with the letter "R."

eNCA reporter, Lester Kiewit, was the first to expose the apparent ignorance on the part of Wesley Moolman and his co-producer, Ramiz. He wrote on Twitter:

So these two clowns who work for @KFMza thought they could shame a Minister. They’re the sad indictment that maybe our education system did fail some.
They’re Rude, wRong, and aRrogant. For the record, the 3 R’s: Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic.

In an video posted on his Facebook page, Wesley apologised to the Minister and said they should have done more research.

Wesley said:

The joke is on us. We should have done our research and we should have known what we were talking about.
If you're gonna talk about a politician and make silly, stupid jokes about a politician, you better know what you're talking about. Sorry.
