2 Eastern Cape sisters sadly succumb to Covid19 related illnesses

- Two young sisters from the Eastern Cape have sadly passed on after having Covid-19-related complications

- The sisters, aged 19 and 27 from Cradock in Port Elizabeth, died only days apart from each other

- The news of their death was shared by the high school that the youngest sister attended and matriculated from in 2019

Two young Eastern Cape sisters have tragically passed on days after each other after succumbing to Covid-19-related complications. Bridget and Samantha Stander, who came from Cradock, a small town near Port Elizabeth, died a few days after each other.

Bridget was only 19 while her older sister Samantha was 27 years old. The news was shared on Facebook by Union High School, a school attended by Bridget, who matriculated from there in 2019.

In the heartbreaking statement, the high school revealed that both sisters had attended Stellenbosch University before their untimely deaths. They also said that Bridget was hospitalised and diagnosed with pneumonia thereafter, she passed on 2 January this year.

Her sister Samantha had been rushed to hospital only a few days earlier, also passing on from Covid-29 related illnesses while en route.

“What makes the news of her passing even more heart-wrenching is that Bridget’s death follows only days after that of her older sister, Samantha, 27, who passed away on December 27, also as a result of Covid-19 related health complications,” said the school.

The sisters are only two of the many South Africans who very sadly lost their battle to the dreaded virus which has been wreaking havoc in many countries across the world.

In other Briefly.co.za news, Twitter has been abuzz with speculative posts regarding the possible return of a hard Level 5 lockdown as cases of Covid-19 continue to rise. Various Twitter users have said that they have heard from friends and relatives who work in government departments that they have been told that the country will go back into a hard lockdown.

Many have speculated that South African might be put into a lockdown for up to 7 days. None of this has been confirmed and tweeps are sharing their opinions and reactions to the possible return of a hard lockdown.

"Another reason we're in this mess is that people didn't maintain the Level 5 lockdown mentality when restrictions were eased the first time around."
