- In January Mark Fisher made a condolence post to the wrong musician
- Social media users are ruthless and start the #MarkFishChallenge
- A month later, he is still getting spammed for the same thing
Retired South African soccer player, Mark Fish, in recent years has been more well known for his social media ‘oops’ when he tweeted to show his condolences for the late Hugh Masekela.
The only issue here was that he posted a photo of himself with musical legend Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse and not Hugh Masekela. It was a moment of confusion which led to a social media trend named the #MarkFishChallenge.
The fire back from celebrity, Hotstix, definitely fueled the fire, but he found the funny side of the post and tweeted back ensuring the public that he was still very much alive. Mark took it head on but didn't see the intense hype in the ‘oops’, he tweeted a simple apology and set the post straight.
Many negative comments went flying around social media, but in a whole most forgave him, we all human. The trend took off in a matter of minutes, with people posting pictures of themselves with celebrities and tagging the wrong person. It is safe to say that social media trendies have no skaam.
Yesterday, more than a month after the social media ‘oops’, Fish posted a picture of himself with Thuli Madonsela. Within seconds social media users tore him commenting with their own sarcastic views on the #MarkFishChallenge.
Jumping straight back in, holding onto the past, users comments started flying with who they thought was ‘really’ in the picture.
Mpho replied with “Up The Bucs !!!! Is that You With Helen Zille? Lol”
Edwin commented with “Lucas Radebe posing with Grace Mugabe”
Thembekile asked “But what if he thinks he’s referring to Connie Ferguson”
Pfunzo congratulated him for getting it right: “Nailed it, thought you were gonna say mam winnie”
Tefo pointed out that: “It is Mark Fish but he was actually with Brenda Fassie”
With a good laugh, the celebrity brushed it off. It is clear that Mark will not be able to put this one in the closet just yet.
