Billionaire businessman Elon Musk may soon become the richest person in the whole world as he now trails Jeff Bezos after his nett worth soared to $184.5 billion (R46 billion).

According to a report by the reputable Daily Mail, Musk became the second-richest person in the world after a surge in the price of Tesla shares.

Briefly.co.za gathers that Tesla's stock price jumped 4.9 per cent on Wednesday, January 6, making it possible for Musk to trail behind Bezos by "only" $3 billion (R46 billion).

Bezos' nett worth is $187 billion (R874 billion) and the Amazon chief executive officer (CEO) has held the awesome title of the richest person in the world since 2017.

Recall that despite the pandemic that has wreaked havoc on the entire world's economies, 2020 was a great year for Musk, who was the 35th richest person in the world in January at the beginning of the momentous year.

Tesla delivered 499,550 vehicles in 2020, just 450 short of Musk's target of half a million vehicles.

Musk had just been announced to be the second wealthiest person in the world, coming in after Jeff Bezos, who is firmly in the number one spot with a nett worth of over $182 billion. Musk trails behind Bezos with a nett worth of $128 billion.
