Top 3 countries that have handled the COVID-19 crisis the best
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed over a million lives around the world as several cases are being recorded on a daily basis. While some countries swiftly responded to the pandemic by doing everything within their power to nip it in the bud, others doubted its existence before the deadly disease became unsparing.

On the basis of the foregoing, courtesy of MoveHub, Briefly.co.za presents top three countries that have handled the pandemic the best way and the top three countries that have done otherwise.
It should be noted that the data is based on the cases and deaths as of December 1, 2020.

Below is the list of countries that have handled the pandemic the best way
1. Taiwan (675 cases, 7 deaths)
Before the outbreak of COVID-19 in other countries, Taiwan was testing and quarantining travellers from Wuhan, China.
The country deployed a containment strategy that has been proven to be one of the most successful in the world.
Taiwan used technology to trace suspected cases, and is still doing so today. If a citizen tests positive, the government will provide them with a quarantine hotel and cab.
2. New Zealand (2,059 cases, 25 deaths)
New Zealand has proven to the world that the lives of its citizens are important as the country wasted no time in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
This is the reason why New Zealand set up the National Health Coordination Centre (NHCC) to respond to the outbreak.
New Zealand also imposed restrictions to and from other countries as early as February 2020.
3. Iceland (5,392 cases, 26 deaths)
Early response to the pandemic helped Iceland to keep down the number of cases recorded. The government built a team of contact tracers.
The team ensures that people who may have had contact with an infected person are traced.
Another factor that helped Iceland is because people stayed at home.
Below is the list of the country that haven't handled the pandemic well.
1. USA (13.54 million cases, 268,045 deaths)
The United States didn't take the pandemic seriously till many people started getting infected. Over 13 million people have been infected in the country while hundreds of thousands of people have died.
President Donald Trump misled a lot of Americans by refusing to wear a face mask. The president also promoted hydroxychloroquine as a cure for the deadly disease.
The government of the United States turned a blind eye to much of the World Health Organisation’s advice, including implementing a track and trace system.
2. Brazil (6.34 million cases, 173,120 deaths)
Brazil, which recorded one of the highest death tolls in the world has not had a lockdown since the outbreak of the deadly disease.
Even when states and cities adopted their own measures, they were met with protest which hindered the success that could have been recorded.
The government also ignored medical advice in the face of COVID-19.
3. India (9.46 million cases, 137,621 deaths)
India tried its best in responding to the pandemic on time but lack of funding and unequipped hospitals hindered the country's success in the fight against COVID-19.
The country enforced strict lockdown from March 24 to May 31 2020.
Hospitals in India were not equipped to deal with the pandemic especially when the deadly disease made its way to the more rural parts of the country. Many people were turned away when they visited these hospitals.
