- Judy lost her husband when she was 29
- She met his cousin at the funeral
- The two got married just six months later
A British woman has shared how she got married to her late husband's cousin just six months after meeting him at her husband's funeral.
Judy Hanson, who is now 60 years old, narrated her story to thesun.co.uk. She said she lost her husband, Tim, in an accident in November 1986 when she was 29.
They had two children aged nine months and three years, respectively. Naturally, she was grieving, but that was cut short dramatically when she met Dave at the funeral.
Judy and Dave hit it off in the weeks afterwards. Dave proposed in March 1987 and they got married in May, Briefly.co.za learned. Judy said:
I wasn’t looking for anybody, I didn’t want anybody. But I fell in love. At the time, moving on quickly for me was the best thing.
He got me out of a very dark, downward spiral of emotion, because I had no home, I’d lost the love of my life and I had two young children.

She added that moving on from her loss quickly helped her through the grieving process. Dave made her laugh and helped her feel normal again.
Judy said there were similarities between her late husband and Dave:
Tim and Dave had been close as kids as they’d grown up together. They’re first cousins so they did look similar. There was something about him that reminded me of my husband.
Judy admitted to feeling a little guilty at how quickly she moved on. In fact, she had a "mini-breakdown a year after marrying Dave and having another baby.
Nevertheless, she and Dave remained married for 20 years until they divorced in 2007. They have two children together and are still close friends. Judy said:
Our children are not only half-brother and sisters, they’re second cousins as well, and they all look alike. They’re all fantastic.
