Ghana's Deputy Education Minister pays university fees of 30 1st years

- Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has paid the tertiary fees for some 30 new students in his constituency

- The minister of state, who doubles as an MP, also sorted out accommodation for the 30 students

- According to him, he is looking to get 100 engineers from Bosomtwe in the next 10 years

Deputy Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has paid full university fees for 30 first-year students in his constituency.

The 30 new entrants into the tertiary level are all headed to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa to study various engineering courses.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum took to his Facebook page to make the huge announcement and shared some photos with the 30 benefactors.

The minister added that part from funding the school fees of the 30 students, he had also paid for their accommodation and provided a bus to convey them all the way to school.

He went on to reveal that the motive behind this project was to raise 100 engineers with diverse skills from his constituency.

His post on Facebook read:

"Monday, 11th January, 2021. This morning, I bid farewell to 30 students from Bosomtwe who are on their way to University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa. They are going to pursue various courses in Engineering fully funded by me.
"The excitement on their faces and that of the parents who had assembled in front of my Constituency Office building was palpable.
"Fees paid, accommodation provided and a bus ready to convey them to Tarkwa, I encouraged them to aim high, study hard, read wide and pursue success. My vision of ensuring that Bosomtwe gets 100 engineers within the next ten years is on course."

Many people took to the comment section to applaud the MP for taking such a laudable move and also encouraged the students to study hard in school.
