Apartheid-era scientist Dr Wouter Basson, also known as Dr Death, was in charge of the governments chemical and biological weapons research dubbed Project Coast between 1980 and 1990.

He was one of the most notorious members of the apartheid regime and escape prosecution after the ANC won the country's first free and fair elections.

He had faced dozens of charges related to the work he had done. It has emerged that he is working at a Mediclinic in the Western Cape.

People were outraged to discover that he was practising medicine, he is a leading figure in the field of cardiology.

Many were expecting a statement from Mediclinc but when the organisation broke their silence it was not what people expected.

"Good day, by law doctors are independent practitioners & cannot be employed by Mediclinic Southern Africa. We cannot prohibit HPCSA registered doctors, including Dr Basson, from practising unless they are prevented by law from doing so. Kind regards, the Mediclinic SA team."

Social media users took to the internet to share their reactions to the news that Dr Death was practising medicine freely in South Africa:

"Knowing Wouter Basson is practicing makes me sick. Growing up I was taught he is the reason coloured communities is ruined by drugs, doing experiments on people with mdma, biological warfare on our people. How is it that they were allowed to keep everything &all we know is loss?"

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that writer and poet Lebo Mashile went on a Twitter rant yesterday evening and had Mzansi social media users having a conversation. In her post, Mashile noted how the Democratic Alliance (DA) Chairperson of the Federal Council, Helen Zille was allegedly a racist.

Mashile spoke about how at some point she believed that Zille added value to the political discourse in Mzansi, but now she feels otherwise:

"At some point I genuinely believed that Helen Zille added value to political discourse in this country. She was someone I respected until Twitter," she said.
