Store Manager Arrested and Fined as Cops Find Alcohol in Potato Bags

The South African police service recently headed to Facebook to share the news of a successful bust. According to the post, the cops responded to a tip-off about two men who were selling and buying alcohol despite a ban on the substance currently placed on the country.
According to the lengthy post, two men a 54-year-old milk store manager and his customer aged 50-years-old were both arrested and fined R5000 and R1000 respectively for selling and buying alcohol.
"A crime intelligence driven operation conducted by the Brits Visible Policing members resulted in the arrest of two males on Monday, 25 January 2021 in Brits.
The pair was arrested at approximately 12:00 after a tip-off was received about an apparent contravention of the Lockdown Regulations - selling and / or dispensing of alcohol by the shop owner whose store sells milk," read the statement.
The alcohol was found disguised in potato bags and is reportedly worth over R16 000. Meanwhile, South Africans did not seem very pleased with the news, many of them headed to the comment section to share that they thought cops had better things to do than arrest elderly men who wanted to have a drink.

In other Briefly.co.za news, The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the incident involving Metro officials and an Audi. A series of videos were shared on social media depicting the Metro cops kicking the door of the vehicle and shooting the tyres.
Reports say that the driver had resisted arrest after jumping a red light. His vehicle then crashed into a Metro car. The incident occurred in Milnerton, Cape Town on Monday and has raised various concerns with officials and citizens.
Spokesperson for Ipid Ndileka Cola said they were investigating the incident adding that the vehicle was allegedly stolen.
