A video showing a woman apparently using a baby as an umbrella to shield her from the rain has caused a social media uproar.

Twitter user, @AustinSims22, shared the video on 23 February, Briefly.co.za gathered.

It soon went viral, garnering over 4.9 million views, 43,000 retweets and 88,000 likes.

Several Facebook pages have also shared the video, with one caption saying, "Cannot believe I witnessed someone use their child as an umbrella."

It's unclear where and when the video was taken, or if the woman is the baby's mother. This didn't stop people from criticising her action. See some of their comments below.
