Mashaba Wants Ramaphosa to Investigate Claims Zuma Intends to Leave SA

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba wants the government to respond to reports that Jacob Zuma is preparing to make his way to Russia.

Mashaba noting reports emerging from multiple sources indicating that the ex-president may be 'readying to jet out of SA to Russia in what is believed to be a bid to avoid his appointment' with the State Capture Inquiry.

An individual identified as 'Ally Mosina' claimed that he has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation in addition to alleging that Zuma intends to leave for Moscow next week in search of medical attention.

While this has naturally caused quite a stir, the Jacob Zuma Foundation has distanced itself from both Mosina and his comments.

Nevertheless, Mashaba insists that ActionSA has learnt through reliable sources that Zuma does intend to leave the country with Mashaba commenting that:

"ActionSA calls upon President Ramaphosa and the South African government to immediately take possession of Zuma's passport, as a precautionary measure, to ensure that he cannot depart from the country until he has fulfilled his responsibilities to the State Capture Commission. This is to prevent the Constitutional Court ruling being rendered meaningless."

Mashaba warned that, should Zuma manage to leave SA, his party would launch its own probe in response:

"If Zuma is allowed to depart the country, it would undoubtedly be in transport arrangements made and financed through the state benefits he continues to receive from the South African taxpayer. Should Zuma depart from South Africa to avoid his appearance at the State Capture Commission, ActionSA will be launching its own investigation to determine how this was authorised and which government officials enabled Zuma to depart."
