Morkel married Australian sports journalist Roz Kelly in 2014. She moved to South Africa soon after the wedding and started doing freelance work. The couple has a young son together. gathered that before moving to South Africa, Roz was a respected sports journalist who specialised in reporting, analysing and commenting on cricket in Australia.

Roz met Morkel during South Africa’s tour of Australia in 2012 and the rest as they say is history. Roz was so smitten with Morkel that she flew to India in 2013 to be near him while he played in the Indian Premier League.

“South Africa and Morne have taught me so much about compassion and generosity. I worry less now because my problems seem so trivial when I see the daily battles others go through to survive here, such as a woman on the street corner whose only concern is where her family’s next meal will come from. Each day I try to make a small difference to someone’s life,” she said.

Since Arias came into their lives, Roz has been a devoted mom and has done her level best to raise a baby while travelling the world. She once commented that Arias had been in nine countries before his first birthday.

Morkel mentioned Roz and Arias as contributing factors in his decision to retire. He said he wanted to spend more time with his wife and son.
