South African novelist and poet Zakes Mda has spoken up about the comparison of former president Jacob Zuma to anti-apartheid activist Robert Dobukwe. Zuma made reference to Sobukwe in a statement on Monday.

The statement was released by Zuma's foundation. The former president said he did not fear imprisonment after announcing that he would not cooperate with the state capture inquiry. Zuma claimed that the Constitutional Court had created circumstances designed to deal with him.

That's when JZ stated that memories of the General Laws Amendment Act 37 of 1963 introducing laws intended to be used against Robert Sobukwe had reemerged. Adding that "the parallels are too similar to ignore" which visibly frustrated Mda.

Times Live reported that although Zuma announced he would not co-operate with the state capture inquiry a ruling was made by the ConCourt compelling the former president to comply.

As for award-winning author Mda, he made sure he was available to clap back at tweeps that disagreed with his tweet about Zuma. Many tweeps raised concerns with Mda that Zuma had not explicitly said he was Sobukwe. Read some of the tweets and interactions below:

The clapbacks continued:

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that Jacob Zuma defied the ConCourt by refusing to cooperate with the Zondo Commission. The veteran politician likened the Constitutional Court to the apartheid government. He alleged that it was politicised.

"It is clear that the laws of this country are politicised even at the highest court in the land."

Social media users have shared mixed thoughts on Zuma's stance. Check out some of their comments below:

@kagisonkhoma said:

"What President Jacob Zuma is essentially saying is that: 1- The courts now fight factional battles. 2- I’m not scared of you guys. 3- I’ve been arrested many times, so dala what you must. 4- I will not succumb."

"Wow but I thought he was waiting for his day in court. I know the commission is not court. Also he has been saying he will come out and tell the truth. Why doesn’t he come out with the truth and expose whoever is wrong or must be held accountable."
