Haibo: Booze Board Lashes out at Viral Party Vid as Alcohol Returns

A video showing a party which allegedly took place East London, Eastern Cape with mask-less people has gone viral on social media. The Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) has now condemned the video and the actions of the people in the video.

The 30-second clip was shared to Twitter by @RamsByTheHorns. The people in the video are not only mask-less but are also not maintaining social distancing. This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the ban on alcohol had been lifted.

The ECLB has labelled the actions in the video as 'concerning'. They went on to caution people who are continuously breaking regulations that this could lead to the banning of booze again.

Times Live reported that the ECLB has urged liquor traders to 'strictly adhere to new regulations'. Social media users have claimed that the video was not taken in the Eastern Cape but rather in Durban last year.

Ramaphosa had held a very serious family meeting with Mzansi during which he issued an immediate ban on the sale of alcohol as infections spiked.

During his speech, a clip was recorded of a mask-less party. In the background of the party, a TV set is seen on which Ramaphosa is making his announcement on the liquor ban.

This resulted in the video going viral and capturing the attention of the authorities, who swooped in and arrested the tavern owner for contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
