Lehigh University has stripped US President Donald Trump an honorary degree it awarded him 30 years ago.
The Pennsylvania-based university cited Trump's "racist" and "sexist" comments as the reason for its decision, Briefly.co.za learned.
Lehigh spokesperson, Lori Friedman, said it was customary for the university to award honorary degrees to its commencement speakers. Trump spoke at the institution in June 1988, according to upworthy.com.
Faculty members voted overwhelmingly for the decision in January. In a letter released recently, they said:
When we adopt this motion we send a message to each other, to our staff and students, and to the world at large that we do not accept sexist, racist, demeaning speech, speech that marginalizes, intimidates, and limits the potential of people based on gender, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical ability.

This is not the first time Trump has had an honorary degree recalled. In 2015, Robert Gordon University in Scotland rescinded another one.
The US president still has three honorary degrees — two from Liberty University and one honorary doctorate from Wagner College.
