'Dinner at Somizi’s' Records Viewership Drop, According to New Ratings

- Somizi Mhlongo's cooking show Dinner at Somizi's has received a lukewarm reception, according to the latest TV ratings

- The show, which is surrounded in controversy, pulled in less than 500k viewers in the month of January this year

- This is according to stats that were released by The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa

Dinner at Somizi’s seems to have hit a viewership low. This is according to entertainment blogger, Phil Mphela.

The show was not featured in the Top 10 most-watched shows on DStv, peaking at only 487k viewers in January.

Taking to social media, Mphela said:

“Based on my expectation and the success of the cookbook, I’m surprised the show is not in the Top 10 of DStv.”

The show is currently sitting at number 30 on the list.

Mphela went on to explain that the ratings on these particular lists are compiled by The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRC) — a non-profit industry body which operates independently to provide data, catering to audience measurement needs of the radio, TV, marketing and advertising industries.

The show is currently embroiled in a crowd of controversy after Somizi was accused of stealing the concept on the show from a former associate named Hastings Moeng. This could be a reason why viewers are boycotting the show.

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za reported that Somizi Mhlongo gets to add a new accolade to his already-sizeable list of achievements since his cookbook officially claimed a number one bestseller spot.

The cookbook- Dinner At Somizi's - I Am Not A Chef - has topped the South African chart of bestselling books in the food and beverage category. The star was overjoyed at the news and took to social media to compose a lengthy statement about dreams and express his gratitude.

Somgaga posted the news about his bestselling book to Instagram and his caption described how proud he was of the achievement. He also mentioned the number two spot on the list was held by one of his icons, Jamie Oliver, and described how the well-known cook had inspired him to pursue his own culinary dreams.

Somizi also expressed how grateful he was for everyone who had supported his vision and all the people who went out and purchased it:

"...and to everyone who has bought the book and to all who are still gonna buy the book. I'm so proud of myself for believing in myself and released my first of many self-published books. God you are good all the time. Here's to more number ones..."
