Motshekga Outrages with Claim That 'Educated Men Don't Rape'

The students at the Nellmapius Secondary School in Tshwane unknowingly witnessed a whole Minister enraging the nation.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has invited controversy by claiming that 'an educated man won't rape'.

Motskega, addressing the students, explained that the government had prioritised education because it knows that it is only through education that certain challenges could be overcome.

Motshekga then went on to claim that 'an educated man won't rape' and even the students could be heard voicing their dismay.

“I thought they need to be a bit civilised not to do certain things, now I’m disappointed, but they don’t do other things neh?”

Continuing this line of thought, with students still audibly dismissing her views, Mokshekga said:

“My theory is that the more educated you are, the more sophisticated you are, the less you get involved in wrong things because you can look after yourself, your family, you can look after your environment.”

For her efforts, Mokshekga has now been subjected to widespread condemnation with thousands of social media users making her trend on Twitter.

One South Africa movement leader Mmusi Maimane has condemned the Minister, calling for her to be replaced:

We urgently need a new minister of basic education. Angie Motshegka exhibits a lack of understanding about how and why Rape and GBV occur in South Africa. She states “an educated man will not rape”. That is pure nonsense."

Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za reported that the Department of Basic Education has lost many educators as the nation continues to battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Sunday afternoon ahead of schools opening on Monday for the first time this year, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga told the media that over 1 100 have died due to the virus.

Motshekga says that the Department has opted to phase in schools reopening over the course of the past 3 weeks.

Teachers and management staff have been in attendance for the past two weeks, hard at work preparing to welcome students back to the classroom.
