A Durban-based Metro Police officer is being praised all over social media for his selfless and heroic act. Ashley Deidricks managed to deliver a baby on a pavement in the Durban CBD.

Diedricks had reportedly been performing work duties when a colleague called him to assist a woman in labour. Diedricks used to work in the fire department and this was not the first time he had to bring a new life into the world.

According to eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson Parbhoo Sewpersad, Diedricks had worked as a paramedic in the fire department so he had prior experience with delivering babies. Nevertheless, his act is truly something to make anyone proud of being South African.
