Meet Sinazo Mthethwa, the Star Pupil Who Obtained a 90.1% Average

Sinazo Mthethwa from Ekurhuleni, Gauteng bagged eight distinctions in Matric. The teenager attended Saheti School and they could not be more proud of her accomplishment. Sinazo achieved a 90.1% average.

The school uploaded a congratulatory message for Sinazo on Twitter stating that she had been named a commendable achiever by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). Sinazo's achievement is extremely amazing.

The teenager forms part of the class of 2020 who had to face delayed examinations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

IOL reported that the 18-year-old thanked her family for their support, which fuelled her determination to work hard in her exams. She achieved distinctions in accounting, English, isiZulu, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences and advanced programme mathematics.

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that the IEB reported a pass rate of 98.07% in the 2020 Matric examinations. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a few disruptions during the academic year so this comes as good news to the board.

The IEB exam results were released at midnight. The examination standardisation body, Umalusi, did thorough checks to make sure that the papers were marked correctly and that they were valid.

IEB CEO Anne Oberholzer said that 88% of the students passed with a Bachelor's degree entry, 8% received a diploma pass and 1% achieved the entry to study for a higher certificate.

According to Oberholzer, Covid-19 caused a number of learners to withdraw from Matric and decide to pursue it this year, 2021.
