Zizi Kodwa recently said the African National Party is his first wife, adding his spouse knows it and often says she is the second wife.

“To say it crudely, the first family I have is the ANC. Some of us who get married have families and they do appreciate that whether you are a mayor or minister, you become a second wife.", he said.

Kodwa added his wife was fully aware that she is his "second wife", claiming she even says the ANC is his first wife.

Briefly.co.za gathered the ruling party takes up a lot of the former ANC national spokesperson's time.

He said he always has a packed bag in his vehicle, which consists of two jeans, shirts and a suit. Kodwa said he should be ready at all times if he is needed.

During the election conference last year, Kodwa said he would not consider the position of spokesperson again, adding it would be the "worst punishment" the ANC could give him if they say he should be the spokesperson again.

“It’s better to leave the stage when everybody says we want more. If you stay too long you may commit serious mistakes.”, he added.

Kodwa was a MP for two years before he got the position of ANC spokesperson. He said it was during his time as spokesperson that he learned "you don’t make your own decisions in the ANC.”

Now, he would be taking up a full-time position in the head of state's office at Luthili House, the City Press reported.

Some even called him the “reincarnation” of Thabo Mbeki’s former spokesperson and head of the presidency, Smuts Ngonyama.

However, Kodwa said he was not Smuts, and neither does he want to be. He added the responsibility was different.

“My job is to coordinate the programmes and functions of the office of the president. At the same time, what Smuts did not have, is that we want to evaluate, through the office of the president, the efficacy of the ANC policies. Do ANC policies, or does the ANC through its policies, spread its influence across all sectors of society?”, Kodwa said.

He added he would also be responsible for keeping an eye on the deployees, adding he would be checking if the ministers and deployees do what is expected of them.

Kodwa said he would unannounced visit the deployees where they serve, as well as at the departments such as the mayor's office.

According to Kodwa, they would be conducting a full evaluation of all MPs and MPLs before the elections next year.

The evaluation would be a decisive factor on who would be chosen in Ramaphosa's Cabinet next year.

Some might say Kodwa's appointment was a way to bypass Ace Magashule, but he said he works with the secretary-general and even reports to him.

“It is not about whether I like him or not. I don’t have options. Five thousand delegates made their preference known, it is not about me. I can’t change that preference. It is a done deal.”, he said.

Kodwa added the most important thing now is the 2019 elections.
