Seasoned journalist Karima Brown has passed away. Reports say that Brown died of Covid-19 related illnesses. Tributes are pouring in on social media for The Fix host. Brown has been described as a stalwart of journalism.

Mmusi Maimane and other politicians have used Twitter to share their condolences with those closest to Brown as the news broke of her untimely passing. The veteran journalist was known for asking tough and hard-hitting questions of those in power.

Brown's reporting spans years and the news of her death comes as a shock to many.

eNCA broke the news of Brown's passing. The South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) released a statement mourning Brown. SANEF described Brown as a well-known political commentator who was revered by many and known for her fearlessness.

SANEF's statement also made mention of four other journalists who passed away in the space of one week in January due to Covid-19 related complications. SANEF has now written to Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize to ask that journalists be included in the list of essential workers meant to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

In other news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on the death of Chief Madzikane Thandisizwe Diko II. He was the husband of suspended presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko. Chief Madzikane Thandisizwe Diko II reportedly passed on after battling a short illness in an Eastern Cape hospital.

The KwaBhaca Great Kingdom released a statement confirming the passing of Chief Madzikane but did not reveal details surrounding his death. The Kingdom stated that further details would be announced after his burial arrangements are made.

Reports say that Khusela was in Gauteng at the time. The Chief was just 43 at the time of his death.
