Seasoned journalist Karima Brown has passed away. Reports say that Brown died of Covid-19 related illnesses. Tributes are pouring in on social media for The Fix host. Brown has been described as a stalwart of journalism.

Mmusi Maimane and other politicians have used Twitter to share their condolences with those closest to Brown as the news broke of her untimely passing. The veteran journalist was known for asking tough and hard-hitting questions of those in power.

Brown's reporting spans years and the news of her death comes as a shock to many.

eNCA broke the news of Brown's passing. The South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) released a statement mourning Brown. SANEF described Brown as a well-known political commentator who was revered by many and known for her fearlessness.

SANEF's statement also made mention of four other journalists who passed away in the space of one week in January due to Covid-19 related complications. SANEF has now written to Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize to ask that journalists be included in the list of essential workers meant to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
