Eff Application to Unseal #CR17BankStatements Being Heard in Court, SA Responds

EFF leader Julius Malema is applying to unseal the CR17 bank statements. The bank statements were sealed by a court order put forward by President Cyril Ramaphosa which hid the details of the donors from his presidential campaign.

Malema and EFF members are attempting to unseal the bank statements in an attempt to find out whether or not the president's donors are benefiting from any state contracts. The case is being heard in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

According to a report by SABC News, the hearing will continue through Wednesday, 17 March. News24 reported that the EFF is arguing that 'public interest' should outweigh the privacy rights the donors have.

Previously, Briefly.co.za reported on the EFF's application to have the bank statements unsealed. Malema shared a tweet stating that the EFF is the main applicant and that Advocate Ishmael Semenya would be leading the argument for the party.

EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu stated in an interview that the EFF would be going to court to clear some aspects:

"We are going to court to find out who has funded Cyril Ramaphosa to buy the ANC conference and the presidency of the ANC so that he can buy the presidency of the country."
