Awonke Nqayiya is a math genius that has used his skills to better and simplify the lives of others. Awonke who has an honour's degree in mathematics is also the writer and producer of his own mathematics textbook. In an exclusive interview with Briefly.co.za, Awonke shares his story.

"I am Awonke Nqayiya (25). I was born and bred in Eastern Cape, in a rural area called Centane. I completed my schooling phases at Seku SPS, Buru JSS and Gobe Commercial high school all based in Centane.
"I completed a bachelor’s degree in applied Mathematics and mathematical Statistics with Cum Laude from Nelson Mandela University. I am currently holding honour’s and pursuing a master’s degree in mathematical statistics.
"Upon matriculating from Gobe Commercial high school, I became involved in several tutoring programs designed to empower high school learners to achieve academic excellence. We fulfilled this objective through interventions such as tutoring, career expo and motivational talks.

Awonke is determined to help learners better understand and grasp the difficult and also taxing subject that is maths. Responding to a question about why he wrote the textbook, he said:

"One of my tasks was to deliver effective Mathematics lessons to the candidates of the programs. Through this journey, I became exposed to the alarming struggles that the learners have in Mathematics. These struggles became the inspiration for me to compile and publish a Mathematics study guide. I started compiling the guide in 2017 and published it in October 2020.
" It took me four years to ensure that the guide has the expected standard and addresses the struggles successfully. The guide seeks to introduce learners to the necessary basics in Mathematics and develop that to more complex problems," says Awonke.

He ends off the inspirational story by adding that he hopes that as many students as possible get their hands on his textbook, not only so he can have sales, but so they can finally have a book with value.
