The Zulu royal family will reportedly be meeting with the late King Goodwill Zwelithini's lawyers on Wednesday to discuss who will be his successor. Sources have revealed that the royal household confirmed that Queen Mantfombi Dlamini will be regent.

Queen Mantfombi is the person who will reportedly appoint the late Zulu monarch's successor from one of her sons. Prince Misuzulu Zulu is Queen Mantfombi's firstborn son and may be the person who succeeds the King.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi stated that further updates concerning the meeting on Wednesday, 24 March will be made public.

SABC News reported that Queen Mantfombi is the daughter of King Sobuza and the sister of King Mswati of eSwatini. SowetanLIVE reported that the King's successor will come from Kwakhangelamankengane thus making Prince Misuzulu the most obvious choice.

Previously, Briefly.co.za reported that His Majesty passed away from Covid-19 related complications. IFP founder and traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, shared a statement that revealed the passing of the Zulu king, which took place while he was still in hospital.

Reports revealed that the late AmaZulu King was laid to rest at night by a select few men on Wednesday. The King's body was greeted with celebratory dances and dozens of AmaZulu regiments called 'amabutho' escorted the motorcade as it arrived at Kwakhethomthandayo Palace, taking up the role of the honour guard for the late king.

The juxtaposition between the sombre behaviour of the warriors and the joyful dancers was stark as the convoy made its way to the mortuary. Questions surrounded who the King's successor would be. Princess Thembi Ndlovu, the King's sister, delivered a moving speech at her brother's memorial.

Princess Thembi stated that she had been receiving a lot of questions about who will succeed the King. Princess Thembi said that "only God knows" who will succeed her brother and she highly doubts that he knew who succeed him

King Zwelithini played a powerful role in the Zulu nation having been installed as the eighth monarch in 1971.
