Tanzania recently got its first female president after the tragic death of its Head of State John Pombe Magufuli.

Samia Suluhu is her name. A calm, collected, smart and knowledgeable woman who has even caught the eye of US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Back when the 61-year-old was still Magufuli’s deputy, she delivered a moving speech that gave the true portrait of what women have to sacrifice as they rise the ranks.

Samia went ahead to say that her daughter always schooled in Uganda and the two would converse over the phone.

Whenever money was needed, the mum always made sure she sent enough over to Uganda.

“Whenever my daughter came back home, I was rarely there because I often travel,” the TZ president noted.

Samia added that one day, she overheard her girl advising her neighbour to be thankful they had a mum who was always present.

She accused the leader of being an absent mum who abandoned her for work and that pierced through the powerful woman’s heart.

“I wondered if that was what my daughter thought then what about my husband? But remember men can always find a solution to your absence. When it comes to kids, a mother’s love will always trump money,” the president explained.
