Despite many still using wooden spoons, they are now forced to revisit their choices after a video on TikTok surfaced where it was discovered that the spoon is a carrier of germs.

TikTok is one of the most used video-sharing platforms all over the world where users share funny videos, but sometimes educational.

In a recent offering posted by Bonnie McNamara, also known as @miss.clean.with.me on the social media tool, she was shocked to find out the highest degree of dirt in her spoon.

According to a report run by Insider.com, the user dipped her wooden utensil in a glass with hot water, she took a video of the process as the water turned brown and pieces of previously-embedded food floated to the surface to her shock. She said:

“I was not prepared for this? Tiktok teaches me so much! #clean #cleaning #satisfying #asmr #cleantok #foryou #fyp.”

The video has received mixed reactions from her followers with some suggesting that their food tastes good because of the germs.

@AnnyAnny said:

"That's why my soup tastes good.”

@Lindsay Davis prefers to remain ignorant:

"Sometimes I like to remain ignorance. This is one of those times.”

@Xio said:

“My mom has had her wooden since my brother was born, 19 years ago, and she brought them from Mexico with her. I will be ignoring this."

@KT offered some advice to TikTokers, saying wooden spoons are like a sponge:

On the other hand, @Eloisa had a different view:

“You all don't need to worry. Wood is naturally disinfectant. So, you shouldn't get ill.”

Whilst many expressed shock, @NoNickname questioned the liquid poured into the glass.

“What is that stuff because the spoon looked clean. Was that just boiling water?.”
