- Following a recent clip that's circulating on TikTok, many users prefer to continue utilising their wooden utensils
- While some believe the spoons should be thrown away, a number of the followers suggest they are sentimental to them
- Moreover, one user is of the view that the traditional spoons have a perfect purpose, to add taste to the food
Despite many still using wooden spoons, they are now forced to revisit their choices after a video on TikTok surfaced where it was discovered that the spoon is a carrier of germs.
TikTok is one of the most used video-sharing platforms all over the world where users share funny videos, but sometimes educational.
In a recent offering posted by Bonnie McNamara, also known as @miss.clean.with.me on the social media tool, she was shocked to find out the highest degree of dirt in her spoon.
According to a report run by Insider.com, the user dipped her wooden utensil in a glass with hot water, she took a video of the process as the water turned brown and pieces of previously-embedded food floated to the surface to her shock. She said:
“I was not prepared for this? Tiktok teaches me so much! #clean #cleaning #satisfying #asmr #cleantok #foryou #fyp.”
The video has received mixed reactions from her followers with some suggesting that their food tastes good because of the germs.
"That's why my soup tastes good.”
@Lindsay Davis prefers to remain ignorant:
"Sometimes I like to remain ignorance. This is one of those times.”
“My mom has had her wooden since my brother was born, 19 years ago, and she brought them from Mexico with her. I will be ignoring this."
@KT offered some advice to TikTokers, saying wooden spoons are like a sponge:
“I am a health inspector we don't let the kitchen have wooden utensils. Because wood is essentially a sponge for stuff like that. Impossible to fully clean.”
On the other hand, @Eloisa had a different view:
“You all don't need to worry. Wood is naturally disinfectant. So, you shouldn't get ill.”
Whilst many expressed shock, @NoNickname questioned the liquid poured into the glass.
“What is that stuff because the spoon looked clean. Was that just boiling water?.”
In other news, Briefly.co.za reported that the platform has gained enough popularity among most people globally, especially now that one can also make money with it.
