Victor Mabaso is a 72 year old man from Daveyton who grows his own bananas right in his back garden. They are his pride and joy, come rain or some shine, he is tending to his bananas.
“People have been complaining about the weather, but I’m taking advantage of climate change”
Mabaso planted his first tree in 2000 and it just grew from there.
“I started by planting one banana and then it multiplied.”
He has many tricks and methods from all the years, one of his best is using an old coal stove to speed up the ripening process.
Mabaso also grows pawpaw’s and avocados in his back garden among the bananas.
Mabaso’s mission is to sprout the love for horticulture in Daveyton and wishes to the ward councilors and the community involved in his vision.
“I have trees on my lawn which people in the community enjoy sitting under.”
Mabaso will continue to grow his fruits and tech as many people the tricks of the trade, as he can.
