Julius Malema: Mzansi Responds to Trial Date Set for EFF Leader

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema's firearm discharging case's trial date has been set. Malema is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and three counts of contravening the Firearms Control Act.
Both Malema and Adriaan Snyman appeared at the East London Regional Court on Monday, 29 March. The incident allegedly occurred in Mdantsane, near East London in 2018 while celebrating his party's fifth birthday.
The EFF leader is accused of discharging a rifle at a stadium in Mdantsane in 2018 during the EFF's fifth birthday anniversary celebrations.

EWN reported that the trial date is set for 23 August. A report by News24 stated that Vuyani Pambo, EFF spokesperson, said that the case is a 'waste of time' and that 'they' are trying to derail the EFF.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Anelisa Ngcakani said the State is ready to go forth with the trial and that all investigations have been finalised.
