Bheki Cele is taking his new role as the South African police minister very serious.
At a parade in Pretoria, Cele recently said the SAPS was not in a battle with South Africans but it would not hesitate to respond with war if threatened by criminals.
The parade saw Cele being officially welcomed by the National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole.
The new minister, who took over from Fikile Mbalula, said they were striving to make South Africa a safer place for all citizens.
"Whoever declares war against us, against innocent communities, against women... you want war, you get war. We shall refuse to fall in front of criminals.", Cele said.
The new SAPS minister also called on law enforcement officers to better their skills and enhance their crime-fighting abilities.
Cele added they would not allow anyone to smear the name of the police.
