ANC NEC: RET Faction No Longer Supported, No Access to Party Resources

- The ANC NEC's four-day meeting has resulted in the announcement of the RET (Radical Economic Transformation) faction coming to an end

- President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed that ANC members should no longer be associated with the faction

- Ramaphosa also stated that RET members are not allowed to use any of the ruling party's resources or premises

The African National Congress' (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) held a four-day meeting where President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the closing address on the evening of Monday, 29 March.

During the meeting, Ramaphosa stated that ANC members should no longer be associated with the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) forces movement. The movement is currently being run by ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule staffer Carl Niehaus.

Members of the RET and others supporting the movement have also been banned from using any ANC resources to keep the faction active.

According to a report by News24, an investigation will be launched with the focus being on disciplinary charges. The report continued by saying that the RET forces have become Magashule's support team at Luthuli House.

TimesLIVE reported that Rule 25.9 of the ANC Constitution was brought up. The rule speaks on the 'institution of disciplinary proceedings'. The NEC has directed the presenter of the ruling party to investigate matters and formulate charges for the National Disciplinary Committee if necessary.

Previously, Briefly.co.za reported that Magashule's supporters objected to him stepping aside. His supporters disrupted a National Executive Committee meeting about the controversial SG. Magashule's supporters objected to him being forced to step down within seven days.

This is in connection to a R233 million roof audit in the Free State which Magashule is accused of both fraud and corruption. Reports say that Magashule was charged with 74 counts of fraud and corruption.
