A traffic officer pulled Jan Bronkhorst over at a road block, and asked for his licence.

When she checked it and noticed it was his birthday, she unexpectedly burst into song, singing happy birthday to him.

Jan posted the video of her singing on Facebook, which has had close to 150 000 views so far.

Briefly.co.za learned that Jan wasn't expecting it at all, as she told him it was a routine check, and he was just expecting to have his vehicle checked before being sent on his way.

“Vanoggend stop n “Speedy” van George my, “net n roetine stop Meneer, wys my jou bestuur lisensie” en toe gebeur dit,” Jan posted on his Facebook.

It translates as: "This morning, George’s “Speedy” stops me, “just a routine stop, Sir, show me your driving license” and then this happened.”

Comments on his post have shown that South Africans are thrilled by the officer going above and beyond in her job to make driving a safe and happy experience.
